How to Celebrate and Recognize Your Sales Team

Your sales team is a vital part of your organization. However, it’s also easy for organizations to overlook these individuals - or assume financial incentives like commissions are enough to keep them invested and happy. Celebrating and recognizing your sales team through dedicated efforts shows your appreciation for the role they play - and it makes them more likely to stay with your organization for the long term.

Use these ideas to show your sales staff how much you appreciate them.

Friendly Non-Competition

Competitions are a fun way to incentivize employees - but shouldn’t always be tied to performance. If you want to do competitions the right way, create some challenges around things that don’t pit your employees against each other. Mini challenges are a great way to do this - set a competition and the winner gets a small prize. Ideas include:

  • Who can get through their sales pitch the fastest?
  • Objection bingo
  • Best email (voted on by team)
  • Scavenger hunt

These contests are an excellent, low-stakes way for your team to compete without feeling like their performance in the competition is tied to their performance in the company.

Rewards that Matter

Offering rewards is a great way to show your team that you care - but move beyond the sticky notes and pens to stuff that actually matters. Give your group items that they’ll use, appreciate, and value - just like how you value their role in your organization. A great place to start is with items you don’t think they’d necessarily buy themselves. Fun kitchen gadgets, computer accessories, and travel bags are all great ways to give products that are both fun and practical for work or home life.

Robust Recognition Program

A well-designed rewards and recognition program ensures that your sales staff is celebrated for their wins and milestones.

Some popular incentive programs include efforts around:

  • Quota: Incentives provided for meeting or exceeding set performance goals
  • Innovation: Rewarding new ideas and taking chances
  • Wellness: Incentives given for meeting personal wellness and/or sustainability goals
  • Peer-to-peer: Rewards given between peers to reinforce positive behaviors
  • Contests: Individual or team efforts are put together to compete for an awarded incentive

Whatever type of program you decide on, it’s important to be consistent and design it with all individuals in mind. Consider what they’ll value and appreciate, and make sure everyone knows what the program looks like.
